Broken Arm

 Brooklyn did not like the fact that she had to wear her sling.  We insisted that she wear it, but after she proved to us that she was fine without it, it was gone.  The wrapping they did at the ER was intense.  It was huge.  She was not able to wear any normal shirts.  Because she could not get her arm in the sleeves.  But thank goodness that only lasted a few days, and then off to get a real cast.

AS you can tell, a broken arm did not stop Brooklyn from doing everything she wanted to, including jumping on the trampoline. 

A week after she broke her arm, she was finally getting that HUGE wrap off and getting a nice little cast.  Brooklyn said she wanted an indigo colored cast, but I was not sure that color would be available.

 

 Brooklyn looked a little too excited to be in the doctors waiting room.  

 

We were so lucky to have found a doctor that provides water proof casts.Yes you heard me right, water proof casts.  Heck, we were going to be in Southern California in a few weeks, ocean, lakes, and pools we had to get water proof or the whole trip for Brooklyn would be so depressing.

She did such a great job, the doctor wanted her to move her hands and she was very hesitant to do so, because she knew it hurt or that she could not, so she ended up crying and never moving her hands.  

 After the doctor examined her arm, Brooklyn was able to pick out the cast color, and of all colors she picked PINK!

 I thought bring 4 years old and having a broken arm, she did a pretty good job with following directions and staying still. 

 As you can tell by the pictures, Brooklyn was very interested in what the doctor was doing to her arm.  Mom was very interested as well.  I have never seen a cast put on before. 

Brooklyn did a great job, and heck she could jump in the shower or a pool right after that...Wooo Whoo!

First broken bone in the Heller house

Brooklyn was the first one in our little family to break a bone, besides Alyssa when she was a kid.

On May 3rd, it was a normal day.  In the evening Brooklyn was playing down stairs ( Basement )in the evening time around 7pm and she went to kick a soccer ball and some how landed on her arm the wrong way.  She cried  like every other child would when they fall down. Eric and I thought nothing of it.  Eric carried her up stairs and we looked at her arm that she was holding. We noticed a little indent on her arm, but nothing looked too serious.  She continued to hold it and cry.  We were not sure what happen in the basement because Brooklyn was too emotional to explain it.

 So after a few phone calls, we ended up calling my sister who was in nursing school and she asked Brooklyn to move her arm a few different ways. After a few of those movements she could do and not do, we realized she might of broken it.  Eric took her to the Emergency room, while I stayed home with Bentley.  After a few hours of them at the ER, I received a phone call explaining how Brooklyn needed her mom.  I found a baby sister for Bentley 10pm and I headed to the ER.

Brooklyn's arm was broken.  It was reported that it broke in two spots.  A nice clean break so it didn't require too much work.  

She was a very good sport.  We had to explain everything to her, because she is very scared of the unknown especially at the hospital.  We realized that we were going to be going to Southern California in a few weeks and that Brooklyn would have her cast on. Just another adventure. Brooklyn was told to have her cast on for 6 weeks.  She headed home with a huge brace and sling. 

Discover Gateway trip

 Discover gateway is a children s museum that has a ton of hands on science projects and things the children can do.
The first stop was a sucking  tube that moved the balls from one place to another.  Brooklyn got a huge hit out of that.  Bentley on the other hand liked the balls. So he was in heaven.

 Next area, there were a ton of blocks you could build.  You could build, stack, move with a crane or play with them.  Brooklyn thought the crane was cool and was attempting to put it in it, so she could move it to another area.

Bentley just wanted to move the block around. 

 The next area was a hit.  Bentley loves water and so does Brooklyn so it was perfect.  You can move little boats or balls through the "steam". Bentley got a hold of a ball and would not let go of it until we were almost done with the hole museum.

Didn't really want to get wet, but he was happy with his ball. 

 Rock climbing wall.  Brooklyn did such a great job, she might enjoy this when she gets older.  She thought it was way cool to be climb a real rock and not be falling down.  She made it all the way to the top, with just a little help from her mother.

 They also had a grocery store you can shop at, weight items and ring people out.  Brooklyn, after much waiting, she was able to finally be the cashier.  Look at her in her own little shop. :)

 Bentley got a kick out of the car.  He was playing in it the whole time Brooklyn was in the grocery store.  He loved the knobs, buttons, wheel, and all that boy stuff.

We had a great time exploring somewhere we have never been before. Great time

Accidents happen, but not to mothers!

One of the worse feelings a mother can experience is the feeling of injuring your child. Emotional of physically.  Brooklyn and I were playing and somehow a pokey object was forced into her eye.  No one else saw what happened except for me.  I was on the other end of that object. 

 As soon as I saw what happened and hear Brooklyn's scream of pain, I felt like I have never felt before.  Because I don't want to go into much detail become it still makes me feel nausea and squirmy.  

We didn't have to go to the doctor, thank goodness. After much cuddling, rocking and Ibuprofen she feel asleep and I was able to see her eye.  She wasn't able to open her bad eye and only open her good eye for a second.  I am so thankful for Eric for staying calm and knowing what to do and taking care of me and Brooklyn.  

 Being a mother, I always assume the worse.  I made my child blind.  We debated on going to the doctor, but we realized if were couldn't look at her eye, she wasn't going to let a doctor do it.  I was not sure how bad the eye area or eye itself was going to be.  I just replay the image back in my head and it scares me to pieces.  After prays and pleading and faith, near the end of the night Brooklyn was able to open both eyes and see out of them.

 I was so excited and expressed my gratitude to Heavenly Father for watching over our family and especially Brooklyn and keeping her strong.  Uncle kyle was right where I needed him and occcupied Bentley while I aided to Brooklyn's every little need, and Angela for buying Brooklyn Strawberry Ice cream...the only thing she said she wanted.

* If you know me, you might know this.  I am very sensitive to my eye and eyes in general.  So this experience mad me flip upside down.  I was nausea, dizzy and totally panic.

Happy New Years

This picture may be deceiving.  It looks like Brooklyn is ringing in the new year with a wine class full of milk and a delicious looking cookie.  Well all but one is true.  She was ringing in 8pm BED TIME. I let her have her cookie and milk early since we knew she wouldn't last past 9pm.  But after saying that, I should of had a cookie and milk then too, because we don't celebrate New Years in our house.  I think I made it until 8:45 PM and I was out.  Hard to think of women my age leaving the house at that time to go party the night away and all I wanted to do was sleep the night away.

 Eric stayed up, keeping himself busy, and luck for him I happened to wake up at 11:58.  Just in time to say, Happy new year and go back to bed.  Annoyed by all the people outside cheering and horns honking, I am for sure a bah humbug when it comes to New Years.  So after that note.

Christmas 2012

Santa visited our house:

Yes another year on the nice list! 

Our family tradition is after we see what Santa has brought us, we eat breakfast as a family and then head back down to the Christmas tree and open each gift one by one.  

I love having Christmas last longer than 5 minutes.  We have done well so far throughout the years.  We each take turns and open up a gift and we even let the kids open it up all the way and play with it for a few minutes.  As you can see, Eric already started his book. :)

The kids were very excited and happy with all their Christmas gifts they received from family.  We are very thankful for all the love our family has show for us this holiday season.  

After lunch, Brooklyn and uncle Kyle whipped up some treats on Brooklyn's new East Bake Oven! 

We had a great Christmas and are thankful for our family, and the Savior.  We try to focus the holiday season around Christ and the true meaning.  Brooklyn knows the three gifts that Jesus received from the wise men.  Which we are proud she learned and realizes.

 Our kids in their Christmas best. Just like every other day Bentley didn't want to stay still for longer then a millisecond so I only got a few photos of him.

Build and Grow

 Lowes and Home Depot do a Build and Grow workshop for children about once a month.  In December we were able to attend one! Brooklyn was such a big girl

She loved hammering the house for the Gingerbread and putting all the pieces together.  This was definitely  something we will do again.  Great little date for mom and Brooklyn and especially for daddy and daughter to do next time.

Let's visit Santa

 Here comes Santa, here comes Santa......

Pure excitement to sit on that mans lap.

But when she finally did, shyness set in real quick.  She did tell me how Santa told her she was high up on the nice list.  She made sure she told us that daily until Christmas came.

Christmas fun

 We found a fun idea to make snowmen or icicles with toothpicks and marshmallows.  The kids had such a great time. Creating all sorts of things.

Next we made snow globes.  We put to use all those baby food jars i kept for who knows what. They thought it was the coolest thing! Making their own and adding...snow  to it.
